Jill Bell

Committee Member

I joined Macarthur Accommodation System in 1987 as a Social Educator (now known as a Support Worker) working with the five residents, some of whom are still with the Service. The service had fifteen residents and four houses. Later, I also had the care of another house with two residents. Busy times!  After I completed my University Degree in 1989 (mature student) I was offered a temporary position as Service Manager for a year.  That year morphed into twenty three years when I passed the baton to Carmel on my retirement and wished her as happy a work life as I had had.

During my time, the Service grew to support seventeen residents and six houses. Over the years, there were many changes, new residents to settle into a new life style, changes and movement of our residents into different houses as needed, many staff changes and, I am very pleased to note, changes for the better in the disability field.  I look back with pride on the quality of support we gave our residents, the dedication of staff members, the ongoing support of the Management Committee and, especially, the support and generosity of families.

For the last ten years I have served on the Management Committee and have watched the Service grow further to 27 participants with the introduction of NDIS under Carmel’s management and the current Management Committee.  May Macarthur Accommodation System continue to make a difference!
